What A Start!

Well, grade 6, we certainly had an interesting start to the new year weather wise. Started out warm and then WHAM! Old Man Winter showed his true colours. Brrrr!

Starting in February, we will be stopping with our SS program and moving onto science and our new topic, electricity. We will be doing a lot of experiments and writing up lab reports.

February is also "I Love to Read" month and the teachers at Shevchenko have come up with our theme and you will LOVE it!! We have some exciting activities planned and guest readers coming to read to us. We will reveal the theme soon.

Our next Math unit is decimals and I am expecting that we will find bits and pieces of it challenging but it will be great!

Until next time....stay warm!

What an experience!!!!

Wow! What an experience we had yesterday. It was an honour and privilege to host Darryl Reid, the speaker of the Legislative Assembly, his clerk, and Dennis Smook, La Verendrye MLA. Hearing about their occupations and responsibilities in being part of our government was very informative. The activity of going through the passing of a bill to become law was very interactive and amusing. I learned that I have students that are very good at persuading people to change their minds about a bill. Maybe we should have a debate someday. I would like to thank you grade 6 students for being polite, energetic, willing, and respectful towards our guests and what they were teaching us. I think if we manage to get to the Legislative Assembly in spring, we would be gettting the royal treatment. They told me that they very much enjoyed their time with us and to be sure we visit them when and if we get to the Legislative Building, home of the Golden Boy!

This Week....

Sorry, fell asleep on the job again -- didn't update blog.  I am wondering how many studied for their math test this week because there were too many things that were omitted on the test. Remember, this goes on your report cards!

Essays are due Friday. Not done - recess time will be used to complete them.  We will be starting our December writing assignment on Thursday.

Make sure you are practicing your lines for the Christmas Concert.  That is coming up in a couple of weeks.

We will be finishing Spirit of the White Bison this week as well. A lot to do in a short time!!

Remember that on December 12, the speaker of the Legislatice Assembly and our MLA will be visiting our class.

Have a good week, everyone!

Sooooo Sorry!

Hi everyone,

I am so sorry that I am so behind in my blogging. I know that this is an awesome way to communicate but I am doing a terrible job of keeping up.

I am excited that the Manitoba Speaker in the Legislative Assembly and that the MLA will be speaking to us on December 12. I think it will so cool and it is definitely a new experience for me!

I am also glad to see that you have all accepted Miss Wiens nicely into our classroom. By Decmeber she will be taking over and you all better be doing what she is expecting from you.

The weather is getting colder so please bring warm clothing as recess can be chilly.

Until next time....

The Grade 6 students will be leading the walk! You will bve carryinng a new banner created by Mr. Klassen and we got a brand new Terry Fox Flag, too!

Next week we will be going to the hall to vote in the provincial election and we need to do some preliminary work before we go.  I will be away next Thursday as well, so I do want to get the Evidence Folders done early in the week.
